International Students

Are you an international student wanting to qualify as an accountant in the UK? The information and resources on this page are there to offer you guidance and tips on studying and working in the UK.

STUDYING IN THE UK

Once they've completed their ACCA exams, most international students tend to return to their home country to gain the relevant work experience they need for their ACCA membership. If you plan to stay in the UK to gain your work experience you should be aware of the rules and conditions that apply to you. For further information procedures please visit the Home Office.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

Non-UK nationals who are considering studying in the UK for their ACCA studies need to be aware of the British Government requirements to obtain clearance for entry to the UK as a student.

It is important to familiarise yourself with the UK Border Agency visa requirements, which are subject to change at any time. You will need to know whether you require a student visa, and if so, how to apply for one.

ACCA UK is not involved in any aspect of administering or issuing student visas. This process is managed by the Home Office Border & Immigration Agency. For further information and guidance on UK student visa requirements and application procedures please visit the Home Office.

For a quick guide telling what you need to do, watch the UK Border Agency video on You Tube about studying in the UK.

WORKING IN THE UK

To work in the UK, international students require a relevant work visa. Employer-sponsored visas can be difficult to obtain. The PER element of your ACCA Qualification does count as 'working', so you cannot undertake any PER in the UK without first securing your work visa. Find out more about working in the UK.
