Inheritance tax

The House of Lords has approached the Treasury to request new legislation to protect siblings living together for many years in light of the ECJ decision in the case of Burden & Anr v UK.

The case concerns two elderly sisters who have lived together all their lives but the increase in value of their house means that when one dies, the other will have to sell their house to pay the inheritance tax due.
