Rachel Jackson – Head of Social and Environmental Issues at ACCA, says: “This shortlist includes a wide range of industry sectors, including small businesses as well. This broad range of organisations shows that reporting transparently and credibly is becoming accepted, albeit slowly, as normal practice. And as the economic climate continues to turn ever-more gloomy, it is now more important than ever for organisations to be accountable for their impacts, and to ensure that corporate social responsibility remains at the forefront of everybody’s business strategy.”
The ACCA Awards judging panel is made up of experts in sustainability reporting, accounting and assurance, and they will be reviewing the short list in September 2008 to select the winners.
The results will be announced at the Awards presentation ceremony to be held on Wednesday 3 December 2008 at The British Library in London. This event will have an impressive line up of speakers, who will present on topical sustainability issues. As well as the winners’ presentations, the results of the annual reporting research will also be discussed. This year’s theme partner was the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, who will present their findings on the standard of reporting on Human Capital Management by the 2008 entrants.
ACCA's Sustainability Awards around the world reward companies for excellence in environmental, social and sustainability reporting. The aim of the awards is to identify and reward innovative attempts to communicate corporate performance, with the aim to reward transparency.
